What childcare options are available for children who are not yet school-aged?

Every child who has arrived in Latvia as a refugee from Ukraine has the opportunity to receive education in the state language or in the minority language at the pre-school and primary education level. Also, children will be able to attend interest education groups without any restrictions.

If the child has received special education in Ukraine at the pre-school, basic or secondary level, he or she is admitted to the appropriate special education program in Latvia without the expert opinion of the pedagogical medical committee. Contact the Committee for Civil Protection in your municipality and write an application.

How do I enroll my child(ren) into school?

Write an application to yourmunicipality, indicating the class in which your child was educated in Ukraine. You will be contacted by responsible specialists, they will arrange or the necessary documents and the child can start school. The child has the right to study in Latvian or a minority language.

How can I enroll my child in a Ukrainian school in first grade if we are abroad?

Documents for admission to the school can be submitted online on the website "Electronic registration in institutions of general secondary education" at the link mceclip0.png. To do this, you need to register on the site, choose an institution of general secondary education, create an application and confirm it with documents in the institution

Electronic registration is not available in Kyiv, but it is possible to submit an application online to the school's e-mail address (at the applicant's choice). Enrollment will be carried out on the basis of the application of one of the parents, submitted in person or scanned copies or photocopies. Documents must confirm the place of residence of the child, one of his parents (or people who replace them) in the territory of the institution. If parents do not have the opportunity to obtain a medical certificate for their child by May 31, this is not a reason to refuse enrollment. What happens if my kid gets sick?

The Children's Clinical University Hospital (BKUS) provides all necessary medical care to children from Ukraine. To apply for medical assistance and examinations, please call +371 256 801 40 . Can I continue my university studies at another university? What documents do I need?

Ukrainian citizens who have started higher education programs in Ukraine until 24 February 2022 may apply for admission to accredited higher education institutions in Latvia. Information about the opportunities offered by universities can be found here mceclip0.png.

Ukrainian civilians can continue their studies as exchange students, while researchers can be employed in Latvian research institutions, receiving the same support for studies as for students in Latvia or researchers in existing research cooperation programs.
