There, refugees from Ukraine can go for temporary shelter, food and medical care, among other things. From there they are sent to smaller shelter locations in municipalities. Please keep in mind that there is no guarantee that you will be placed at the location of you preference. For example, there often is no available accomodation in larger cities.

Can I access public housing or housing provided by the state? How and where do I apply for public housing?

Normally, you can access public housing/housing provided by the State only after you get a residence permit.

If you cannot stay with friends or family, the Dutch government provides shelter. You can find information on the website of the municipality you are staying in. When you receive a residence permit, you may move to a municipality. The government decides in which municipality you will live. This municipality will ensure that you get a house and will try to take your circumstances into account.
