I am pregnant, where can I get gynecology care?To access the healthcare system, you need to wait to receive your SNS number (numero utente) after which you can ask for an appointment in your local Centro de Saude. If you have requested temporary protection status, it shouldnโt take long for you to receive this number. Primary healthcare is provided in Family Health Units (USF), called health centres . In health centres you can consult a family doctor, the professional who looks after individuals and their families. You can register at the health centre in your area of residence using your user number. Can I benefit from public health care?Yes, you can if you have a status of temporary protection. The application for Temporary Protection automatically grants the National Health Service (SNS) User Number, which gives access to all basic health services, in the public system. Any person registered with the SNS can go to a hospital or health center, having to pay, at most, a moderator fee (which varies according to the care provided). After settling in Portugal, you should contact the health center in your new area of residence within 14 days to register yourself and your family.
