People with temporary protection have the right to use public health services and are entitled to have necessary and emergency medical treatment. The same applies to those who applied but have not yet received temporary protection. In addition, you are entitled to get oncological treatment as well as other specialized treatment in case of chronic diseases.

  • People living in accommodations designated by the state authorities should indicate their needs for medical treatment to the accommodation officials.
  • People who applied for temporary protection or hold temporary protection and stay in private accommodation, should go to the general practitioner (GP, district doctor, โ€œhรกziorvosโ€ in Hungarian) for prescriptions and basic medical examinations. For addresses, you can google the district/town in which you are and write โ€œhรกziorvosโ€. If you need urgent medical treatment, please go to the closest hospital.

I am pregnant, where can I get gynecology care?

Duna Medical Center provides internal medicine care for people with general health complaints, and obstetric and gynecological care for people with pregnancy-related or urgent gynecological problems, between 08:00 and 20:00 on working days. Please call at +36-70-698-0696. An interpreter will be provided during the treatment.

To find it, you should search the district/town you are living on google maps and write โ€œhรกziorvosโ€.

If you need urgent medical treatment, go to the closest hospital. Please use google maps to find nearby hospital addresses (โ€œkรณrhรกzโ€ in Hungarian).

Do I need to register in order to obtain health coverage and if yes how?

Your temporary protection application will enable you to obtain health coverage including emergency medical services. The same applies to those who applied for temporary protection but have not received it yet. In addition, you are entitled to get oncological treatment as well as other specialized treatment in case of chronic diseases.

What does public healthcare cover?

As part of healthcare services, you have access to:

  • Primary health care;
  • Compulsory vaccinations;
  • Out-patient care for urgent needs (examination, treatment, cost of medicines);
  • In-patient hospital care for urgent needs (medical treatment, surgery, cost of medicines, etc.);
  • A health care provider provides specialist care with a territorial care obligation;
  • Examinations, tests, medical treatment, and medical aids;
  • Patient transportation;
  • Emergency dental care and treatment;
  • Pregnancy-related services and obstetric care;
  • Medicines, medical aids prescribed free of charge or with a 90% or 100% social security subsidy for 'persons entitled to public health care;
  • Medicines for testing, treatment, improving, and maintaining specialized oncological care and other chronic care.

Where can I go to get mental health support and how much it costs? Do I need certain documents?
  • Mental health providers (psychologists, psychiatrists, and counselors) offer support to those affected by the Ukrainian refugee crisis at Pszi.hu . These services are available online, over the phone, or personally and are provided for free by volunteering professionals.
  • You can also get free mental health support in cases under Hungarian public healthcare. You can visit a psychiatrist specialist directly with a referral from a general practitioner (district doctor, โ€œhรกziorvosโ€ in Hungarian) or an appointment in some institutions. The psychiatric specialist may refer you to a psychologist.
  • Cordelia Foundation and Next Step Association provides psychological assistance with trained psychiatrists, psychologists, and special therapists and within mental health programs, free mental health support is also available. The National Psychological Association of Ukraine, with the support of the UN, the EU launched a free support line. Anyone affected by the hostilities can call the line. All the psychologists have undergone special training, provide counseling according to international standards and adhere to ethical standards.

The hotline administrator will accept your request, determine a convenient format and time, and direct you to a free psychologist. You will be offered audio or video sessions lasting up to 50 minutes.
